RC45 Fire Up

Post by Grahamrc30 »

I've just bought a UK 1995 0 miles RC45 and it's never been fired up, apart from the obvious, fluids etc, any tips on the engine prep prior to starting!!

First Fire

I would pre-lube the engine and put some molydenum paste on the cam lobes. I am an RC30 guy so I don't know what peculiarities would be involved with injection system, if any. You can pre-lube by removing the clutch cover, taking off the primary gear/starter clutch and spin the clutch counterclockwise by hand to run the oil pump. I have a cut off water pump that I run with a drill but it is for the RC30 and I use it with the oil pump chain disconnected so it isn't as easy.

Other than that change the fluids/coolant and fire it, fingers crossed

I would remove the airbox to have a peek and look into the muffler for signs of mice but you can usually smell this on a bike before you see it.

Fire up

Post by Grahamrc30 »

Great news, my 0 mile 45 came home today after my local Honda dealer got her fired up, and she sounds great!! my fears were not founded thankfully and it says a lot about Honda quality even after 17 years standing,no problem!!

On another topic my left hand side air intake duct has a break in it, I've not tried the dealer yet but does anyone know if these are still available as a OEM part or are there any after market option? I've looked at the QB carbon site, however a couple of forums say their products are not very good? :P
