New EU rules (usual loss of personal freedom)

Post by roger »

EU legislation is under consideration which could prevent bike owners from 'customising' their bikes; so, if such proposed legislation is successful it’s going to be goodbye to that twin-stack HRC exhaust system (etc.) that you had your heart set on; and for all of you already with one, you might have to return your bike to bog standard – and prove (at what cost?) you’ve done it – so that 5 mm titanium washer will also have to go!!

These, so called, 'anti-tampering' rules could also lead to a ban in bikes more than seven years old being used in urban areas... which, in theory, would mean that if you live in an urban area (what percentage do?) your seven+ year old bike stays in the garage (don’t forget to SORN it though)! Such rules would therefore be tantamount to enforced and regular scrapping and (tax-gathering) re-purchases.

An e-petition to oppose this (infinitely stupid) draft legislation is available on the Governments website, i.e.:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22251

For my part, I've signed the petition (for what I think must be obvious reasons). Furthermore, I intend to attach the thread to every e-communication I send out, with the request that it be signed… on the grounds that such rules would present, 'creeping and multitudinous Hitlerisation' of the worst and most excessive kind.
