Hi All,
I have been trying to re commission the 45 after a 3 years
All was going well till this morning when I was going to take it down for a
MOT.
In the last few weeks I've had it running doing various jobs but this morning she refused to start.
First thing I noticed is lack of fuel pump whine/noise when turning the ignition on.
So out came the manuals and It looks like the fuel pump has seized.
I have seen a previous post and there is talk of cleaning the pump or changing
pump with TL1000 or R7. Also seen perhaps SP1/2 pump may fit.
Larry I have seen you previous offer to someone so that is another possible option but I don't really expect you to do that for me.
Yes its my fault I left fuel in the tank so perhaps running the engine the last 2 weeks has sucked up all the crap/gunge.
Time have moved on since the last post, so are there any other suggestions owners may have come up with.
Cheers gary
Hi Larry,
yes I did a test and come to the conclusion that I had 12v at the pump but
it was not working. I even fooled the pump relay and it still did not work.
So I have removed the pump from the tank and separated it from its framework.
yes I can see the mesh filter and that looks pretty clean.
I have made some test wires and gone straight to 12v battery and the pump tried to work for about 1 second and not worked since. I have ordered some carb cleaner but in the mean time I have just tried some electrical cleaner.
I have looked on google and there is a firm called tourmax that do pumps.
My friend in Holland really rates their equipment they sell so perhaps this is a other option.
That you for your offer to help and its very much appreciated.
cheers gary
Hi All,
well I need some advice,
I purchased a pump from fuel performance and it looks ok.
The only visible difference is the colour of pump and the outer metal sleeve
is 11mm shorter than my std pump. (pump send to me HFP-382h)
Ok looks brilliant till you go to fit it and then you realise because the outer sleeve is shorter it is not supported at the top by the top three rubber nipples that grip the motor sleeve.
After a conversation with someone at fuel performance, I have sent some pictures of the differences. He tried to tell me they have sold hundreds of these pumps, I said you may have sold hundreds worldwide but one thing is for sure you have not sold hundreds to rc45 owners. he said no one else has had a problem.
So after talking to fellow forum member Nigel I ask the question to other members, the pump advertised is for a rc45 1994 so that would be a RR.
So is the RS model pump different. This would not surprise me.
At the moment in time I'm waiting for a response from F/performance.
Has anybody got a RR pump out and could measure outside sleeve on pump
Not the overall pump length as this is not the problem.
thank you gary
Hi Larry,
Thank you for your reply.
Please don't feel bad about me buying that pump as it's sort of given me a
challenge to try to sort it out for myself and others.
Well after Nigel came round (another forum member) he confirmed that I was not going mad. I can tell you that HFP 382H is the same as a SP1 as he brought a spare assemble around.
Is the pump the same as on a 45 RR / RS is yet to be confirmed. But I agree it does point to them being the same.
Ok Fuel performance have contacted me saying they have had no problems
from other people, (are these 45 owners, who knows) but said they had some Honda knowledge type people look at my pictures and come to a mixed opinion that maybe my pump had been previously changed. well I've had three people look and they all said that is rubbish as you can see its the original pump because you can see the marks from the support rubbers.
Let me point out that you could fit HFP 382H pump in a 45 but it would be loose in situ and move around. Maybe this has been done without realising the issue.
To be fair to fuel performance they are sending me another pump slightly longer so watch this space. Thank you Larry for your offer you are a good man and I will let you know. Just another piece of info I was also looking at two other pumps kemso 10910 and Walbro GSS 342.
Both from the USA but could not get any info on the metal sleeve length.
Hope to get other pump in next couple of days cheers gary
Hi all.
Just an update.
Ok fuel performance sent me another pump which I will say is the correct
length. This is HFP -385 rather than 382H and the fitment was perfect.
Spares with the pump are of no use so I continued to use the Honda pre filter.
Pump was refitted and testes carried out, then fuel and start up.
Just got back from MOT and first ride on 45 for 3 years.
Yes my knee hurts a bit but the smile on my face says its worth it.
Ok guys, choice is yours what you buy, but if we are convinced the RR and RS pump set up is the same I would go for the 385.
Thank you fuel performance for a quick turn around even though they said the 382H pump is correct. Cheers gary.
