HRC heads, camshaft oil galery

Post by highflyer »

Hi all,

I'm helping a friend to bring back his HRC kitted RC45, out of a 23 year hibernation.
While pumping oil trough the oil filter boss, and turning the crank by hand to
pre-lube all bearings, I noticed oil coming out of the camshaft pedestal (?) ends.
Since he also has the "civilian" heads, we compared them and noticed the oilways were plugged whereas the HRC ones were not. See pics.

The bike has done about 1300 Kms, from which 200 where with the kit installed.
No damage was found to the camshaft bearing surfaces.

Anyone knows why they are not plugged ?

Cheers,

Angelo

I must admit, I like your method better.
And thanks for the oiling diagram.
Next week I'll get a copy of the kit set-up manual to study before we'd fire her up.
I noticed there was a recommended mod "for more stable oil pressure".
The diagram should help.

This is the installed HRC head :

And this is the "Civilian" head :

The shop that did the installation, had the rear exhaust camshaft one tooth off BTW
Doesn't seem to have a bent valve though (I hope).

Larry, Stephen thank you :D
We'll go ahead with bronze plugs .

As a side note, I must commend the members of this forum for their fine taste of bikes .
I've been a tech, and riding European bikes for three decades, and the only Jap motorcycle I ever lusted for, is a RC30 .

I'll let you know how she fares.

Cheers,

Angelo
