Bone stock RC30 dyno run

Post by linny999 »

My 1990 RC30 has always had a real flat spot at 6>7,000 RPM, (we're at 5,000 feet here on Colorado) so I got it dyno'd to sort the mixture out.

The baseline run showed it to be running really rich all over (see chart), the jetting was pilot 38, main 112 front, 110 rear, screw 2.5 turns.

The dyno tech dropped the jetting to 102 in the front, 100 in the rear, left the pilot jets and screws alone but removed the fat shim from under the needles.

The results were good, the chart showed it made nearly 100 HP (up form 87) and probably would have cracked 100 if he had run it 500 rpm more.

You can see the two runs, the first run looks very linear 'cos the tech reckoned he hadn't got the tach sensor in the right place. The second run is not that smooth
as the tyre was giving out (it was just about bald).

This has translated to a lot more throttle response and more go all through the rev range - it pulls cleanly all the way to the red.

I am going to get a pipe next, I have a local source to make me a very nice (or so they claim) 4-2-1 joint pipe to go from the stock headers to some flavour of slip on - I could
get a few of these made if anyone is interested - I know the availability of aftermarket pipes is rather limited.

Nice looking bike linny..

Here's the dyno chart for my own RC. Oddly, I can't feel the 7,000-8,000rpm flat spot whilst riding. So far as I know, it's completely stock (Belgian market). The run was made with the standard exhaust.

ps. I'm about to fit a 'race' system to it. Can anyone advise what jetting/settings I'm likely to need? I've never had the carbs off (..nor laid a spanner on the bike since I bought it), so I don't know what's in there at the moment. Cheers

Linny,

Great looking Rc30 there very clean. Makes very good power for a stock bike too.
Other thing to try is a UK type air box snorkel (17222 Mr7 600 ) not sure if still available? and air filter, or an ITG stock type filter

Steve

The base carb setting I use for a stock Rc with full system with K&N / ITG filter in stock airbox
BBB type needles one thin shim under the needle
Mains 122 or 124's
Pilots stock 38's
Screws 2.4 turns out
My stock Rc turned out anywhere between 108 - 112 RWBHP dependent on the dyno
The Tony Scott Rc between 119 -121 RWBHP slighly bigger mains at 126's

Altitude is not too great in Yorkshire at 50 to 75' where I live !
