Hello all, can anyone tell me what rate the rear suspension linkage works at?, plus what is the rate and length of the standard rear spring ?
My bike seems way too firm at the rear (even with comp damping right off).
Regards,
Terry.
Larry, that's brilliant, thanks. I had hoped to lower the ratio to 2 to 1 but looking at the diagrams, the pick-up point under the middle of the swing arm is further back on the HRC one. Still, it's a better ratio than the 3 to 1 of my VFR750.
I checked the fitted length, 142, so it does indeed have too much pre-load, not for long !
Maybe done as it has a 120/70/17 front.
Can't wait to ride it but no documents yet , still waiting for our DVLA to re-register it (it was new in the German market).
Did check the PGM FI box, ED type.
Thanks again,
Regards, Terry.
Whilst putting the pre-load back to standard, I noticed she already has a 10mm ride height packer fitted. Whoever owned it in Germany must have sorted it all.

Wow, I wish I understood graphs !. Should have tried harder at school.......
I love this technical info, I will study it, excellent help from Larry.
Checking the trail will take time, but I have already measured wheelbase: exactly 100mm. Brochure says 110mm, so it looks like you may be right Larry, I have a rake measurer, but have to wait until my son turns up to assist holding the bike up. The result will be interesting....
Thanks again Larry, she will be spot on by the time documents arrive and she 's road legal.
Can't wait !
Regards, Terry.
Oh dear, I had an old folks' moment, pressing the wrong keys; measured wheelbase is 1400mm, my brochure says 1410. I 'd had a better look at your info sheets Larry and spotted my mistake.
Doh !
Well, rake angle checked, with the forks and rear spring preloads at standard. Almost exactly 24 deg.
I reckon if I take out the 10mm shim off the back shock, then replace it
with a 5mm one, we'll be about right.
Regards all, Terry.
The shock top packer is now a 5mm, from the 10 that it came with. I'd missed the fact there was too much preload on the forks. They're back to standard ,as a result, the rake still measures exactly 24 deg, wheelbase 1400. It has new chain and sprockets, so, perhaps the range for the wheelbase starts at 1400 and goes out to 1410. Don't know.
Have'nt been able to check the trail yet, that will be very interesting.
Regards all
Terry.
