Refinishing stock titanium connecting rods

Anyone ever do this and could share some thoughts? I'm rebuilding an RC30 engine and the coating on the big end thrust faces (the side that meets the crank) is worn off. Was thinking of lapping it and having them sent off for DLC (diamond like carbon) coating. Titanium has a tendency to gaul easily and have heard about the rods failing when the finish wears off.
