Parts ?

Post by steve0z1965 »

Hi all,

I've been offered the opportunity to buy some parts for the bike but as a new owner i'm not sure if it would be a wise investment or a waste of money - i know spares are rare but but i am reluctant to lay out the money if, chances are, I'll never need the parts.

Parts are :

complete set of throttle bodies with injectors ( new)
ECU

Would appreciate your advice/thoughts on this

Parts ?

There’s practically nothing to go wrong with the throttle bodies other than mechanical wear, e.g., butterfly shaft/choke bearing surfaces, and these would be easily fixable anyway… but then I suspect you’d have to be rather a ‘high mileage man’ to ever get to that stage.

Hmm… a high mileage RC45… in my case, I’d probably have to consider a throttle body service/repair when I’m 200 yeas old!

As for the ECU, if you mean the PGMFI module, then as this is an electrical unit comprised of components, failure would usually be at a proprietary component which should be detectable on circuitry test and then replaced, i.e., the PGMFI should (all other options negated) be serviceable.

A waste of money for the parts? Well, quite possibly, and that’s regardless of the price - if it turned out they were never needed. Unfortunately, given the subject is RC45 parts, people (including me!) tend to credit them with a high value; perhaps and in reality, far too high a value (for any and all parts) given that the consensus thus far seems to suggest that certain (many?) parts would not be expected to have a particularly limited ‘life expectancy’.

Regards,

Roger.
