FG43 Ohlins

Post by roger »

kr's bike has (I believe) Ohlins FGR46 forks - i.e., race specific forks with 46mm diameter stanchions; whereas the 'FGRT' variants are indeed road & track forks, they having 43mm stanchions. I can vouch for the FGR forks being one example of 'the bees knees', but FGRT forks are very nice 'kit' never-the-less.

In fact, Steve Hislop raced the ('his') RC45 ("3") with the same front-end set-up as kr's (FGR46's + Brembo callipers) at Knockhill in 1994.

Regards,

Roger.

forks!

The WP forks are a race spec and are 'trick' if you like, FG43 are a good fork and a popular step up in the world of 'bolt on' improvements from road spec.
It all boils down to what you are trying to achieve and what your finished bikes aim is, to race or to look at?! (or other!)

FG8700 and FG9700 were the popular choice of the time.

I quite like the WP variants for the RC45 – and they’re reputedly good quality, so I concur with Mick 45.

The bike in the following Youtube clip has WP’s fitted (which I think may be the bike that Mick now has).
