How do I get more power ?

Post by hollo »

Hello , I know that 45's are difficult to tune without going down the full HRC route . I've got a full exhaust , the flapper cut out of the front of my airbox and a power commander hard wired into my loom to get the A/F ratio as good as it can be.
Is there anything else that I can do to get more power ? , as what you have got is never enough.
Thanks
Mike .

Hiya Mike...
My USA RC45 power out put increased near to 116 RWHP with these mods...

1)Home made K&N filter with working flapper valve...

2) Stock USA ECU with HRC 3 wire trick...

3) Stock USA Spark unit...

4) The best exhaust I found for the RC45 is Rob Lindeman's home made
titanium wonder... not only did it drop 8 pounds but it pushed the
power up to 116 rwhp... the secret to his design is the sections of
TAPER pipes sourced from Akrapovic... it starts with 35mm and
gradually opens up to 38mm which preserves the mid range but also
pushes up the top end... brilliant and expensive but worth $2,900...
I've never regretted the decision...

5) SAE 30 Mobil 1 full synthetic oil... running a SAE 40 will cost 1to2 RWHP in unnecessary oil drag with no difference in wear... It's free HP!!!

Thanks for the reply Larry . Do you know if your A/F ratio is optimised , was it ever measured on the dyno when you got your power figures ?
Is that for your tuning , or do you plan to do any more ?

You're welcome Mike...

I have no way to optimize my A/F ratio as you do and so it remains what ever my stock values can handle...

So equipped stock ECU my RC45 dyno chart showed 112 RWHP and 52.9 ft lb TORQUE...

Next came Rob Lindeman selling his home made Titanium exhaust system... dropping 8 pounds was a strong selling point but what about power??? That is when he showed me his RC45 equipped with his Titanium exhaust on a dyno at 116 RWHP... It was the combination of Light Weight Titanium and more RWHP that persuaded me to send him $2,900 USD...

I have no plans to do any more engine tuning... however since 1998 I have dropped 32 pounds off my RC45 with my home made mods...

Trusted test riders are surprised how all parts gel into a totally user friendly package and how they judge power by the seat of their pants versus the dyno...

Hey Larry,

Thanks for letting me ride your RC45. The bike was pretty amazing. It
was deceptively fast and very light. How big is the motor on that
thing? I was pretty impressed with how comfortable the bike was even
on the track. Your footpeg, handle bar and seat mods made it easier to
circulate around the track! My 996 felt like a tractor-tank compared
to Mr RC45.
