PGM blink

A few enjoyable posts there, some class riders too, Guy Martin lives about 30 miles from me, wonder if he wants to buy an RC45?

No-one is going to 'have a go on it ', that's for sure !

Busy finishing off a C95 Benly so the '45 will have to wait to smell tarmac,

PGM blink

I did have an RC30, the way it reached 13.000 in each gear was fantastic.
I sold it some years ago.
How stupid can you get.
Maybe I should swap the 45 for another 30?

I will be riding the '45 this summer, I'm sure I won't want to part with it !

Regards all

Those 2 diagrams are excellent Larry, now I see where all the bits are in relation to the bike, I will be able to check those items over. Interesting that on the CSML parts drawing, they list the 4 IMA pots as Ignition adjust - I assume that's wrong, she didn't change in any way when I ran her with ...

Thanks both for the comments, looks like I need to eliminate the various sensors , reading up on fuel injection systems I saw that our PGM system has a vacuum thing , a temperature sensor and an airflow thing, the fault - a minor blink/stumble as she warms up - could be caused by that part of the sy...

PGM blink

I will try again, I have a few other priorities at the moment. Someone local has pointed out that the PGM is fuel system only, no control over the ignition. So, why does the PGM blink also show a drop on the rev counter and a brief engine cut-out ?? How is it connected ? Suggestion is there is an ig...

I couldn't find that earth busbar anywhere. There's a bundle of 4 green earths to the frame where the reg/rec is bolted up but no bulge in the loom . Whilst the back of the tank was raised I checked what pipes etc were visible, all looks good. I pulled the main fuse out, slightly grey, cleaned the s...

Thanks Larry, I've just had a look and can't see that plug. Mine must be buried somewhere behind the frame rail and main loom. Will have a better look tomorrow. The voltage problem is resolved, new battery and reg/rec and steady output at 14.3 so finding the earthing points is next. It seems strange...

Well, I unplugged the 4 IMA's and started the engine. Starts OK, PGM light on for longer periods and still the odd stumble. Plugged the IMA's back together, one by one, no detectable difference to the way it ran. Did notice it seems more sensitive just under 3000 revs when the blink seems to happens...

After reviewing the cured hot yellows and maybe weak idle mixture, I finally noticed that the very brief red blink coincides with a very brief ignition cut-out. The rev ctr needle drops for the same brief time as the red blink. It doesn't stop the engine, just that brief stumble , only while warming...

Now the wire heating problem is sorted, I had hoped the red blink might end. No. Reading about the IMA's on here, it occurred to me that as my bike has a race can internals (Two Brothers) maybe that has weakened the tickover ? It clearly has full power but does tickover a little 'poppy', not much, j...

reg/recs

I get the theory Moto 16 but in practice things are different. I went by Vehicle Wiring Products catalogue, they show a 32x0.2 being 1sq mm, a 14x0.3 also as 1sq.mm, but the 32 is rated at 16.5 amps and the 14 as 8.75. Don't know why, but that's what they supply. I've fired it up and the wires no lo...

Thanks vx, you must be psychic ! I went back and unclipped the loom to pull a bit more yellow free . I noticed a bulge in the yellows about 6" back . Then I discovered that there was a previous repair, replacing the last 6" but with wire that had HALF the capacity. ie original loom 32x7tho...

Well, I've cut back and cleaned the ends of the 3 yellows, crimped new terminals on and soldered them. Run the engine and the 3 yellows get hot pretty quick, too hot to keep fingers on for long and the insulation goes soft and sticky. Temp tester says around 50 to 60 deg c. (hard to keep right on th...

Reg/recs

New battery in, new reg/rec fitted (RR62), battery at 13.2, start engine, charge voltage steadies at 14.3. It looks good, but the 3 yellows still get pretty hot, should they ? also the reg/rec got warm. Not sure I'm happy about that, that's with the bodywork off so everything's out in the air. No sm...
